This will be in a bright modern setting with German born Margot O'Donoghue Bsc, MA, educated in Essen, Middlesex University and CIFA in the Lacanian tradition, often thought of as the deepest and most challenging of psychological schools. Margot has lived in North London for most of her adult life. Her experience includes counselling life prisoners in Holloway Prison and her clients today often come from highly pressured postions in the City and the media.

The manifestations fall into 3 main groups
1. Reliving events.
2. Nightmares, flash-backs and other intrusive thoughts.
3. Avoiding people and places associated with the events.

ssociated conditions include:
Irrtitability, sleepiness and lack of concentration, anger, rage, guilt, shame, loneliness and lack of purpose.

In addition sufferers may become dependant on drugs or alchohol as a way of stress relief and trying to forget.

How to combat the condition:

Confronting not avoiding similar real life situations using Cognitive therapy. Going back to the scene of events and coming to terms with reality.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) – This involves linking disturbing memories with repeated rapid and rhythmic eye movements.

Stress Therapy Management
Generally we can all feel stress at some time in our lives particularly with the pressures of the modern work place.

The art of stress management is to confront the issues causing it first of all. Maybe changing jobs or associations with others that are causing the problem. Talking through all the issues is a way to discover the root cause with ways to resolve the issues.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD occurs after being involved in or witnessing a life threatening situation, maybe a car accident, bomb blast, fire, earthquake or being involved in a war zone. It may occur after serious injury or witnessing the death of a family member.

Between 5-10% of the population will experience it at some time. 20-40% of those affected will experience problems over a year's period and 15-20% will experience problems lasting more than two years.
